‘A fine evening’s entertainment’ (British Theatre Guide’)
Set against a soundtrack of iconic 60’s music, Whittington’s beautifully touching and funny play follows the fortunes of Mary Adams, aged 19, unmarried and seven months pregnant. Sent to a Mother and Baby Home against her will by a mother intent on keeping up appearances, Mary has to cope with the dawning realisation that she will have to give the baby up for adoption whether she likes it or not. Despite this, and an overbearing matron, Mary soon starts to form friendships with the other young residents, and it’s not long before the girls’ youthful effervescence shines through.
